The game of fireball is a traditional game typical of the archipelago that is usually played at night. This game is played by two teams using fireballs.
The balls are made from blocks of old coconut belts that have been dried by first removing the water. The chunks are soaked using kerosene so that the oil seeps into the fibers of the coconut balls. Then the ball is burned.
The rules in this game are also almost the same and not much different from football games in general. Each match lasts for five minutes, each consisting of two halves.
For Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level participants or Elementary School level participants, each team consists of 7 people. SMP level or madrasah tsanawiyah each team of 5 people. Not only male santri, but also female santri participate, they are divided into 9 people for each team.
The area is a basketball court. The competition is led by a referee. For the team that puts the ball into the opponent's goal a lot, then that team is declared as the winner in the game.
The players have to go through a special ritual before playing it. The purpose is so that the heat is not felt, the fire does not burn the skin. Understandably, the ball is accompanied by a blazing fire. The rituals include fasting for a month which aims to clean oneself, avoid food cooked with fire, and recite special prayers. To play fireball, the santri must have knowledge of kanuragan. That's why, before the competition starts, the children will be told to soak their feet in water that has been read 'asma'.
