The Regata Storica of Venice, 2024

The Regata Storica is one of the most spectacular and picturesque events that characterize Venice, and attracts many tourists and Venetians. The Regata Storica takes place on the first Sunday of September. It is the most important event for those who practice or love rowing "Voga alla Veneta", a sport that has been practiced in Venice for centuries.
Added to the sport is a historical parade announcing the competition: dozens of colorful boats dating back to the 15th century, and costumed gondoliers carrying the Doge, his wife and his highest advisors, commemorating the glory and opulence of Venice, which was once an essential commercial and political power in the Mediterranean.
Today, the regattas are above all an opportunity for a large popular gathering. There are crews of women and young people, and representatives of the different districts of Venice. The historic regatta brings to life the splendor and pomp of the Most Serene Republic.
