From November 16th to November 20th, 2023, the HYX 16th World Wushu Championships will be held in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. It will be twenty-eight years since the last time the World Wushu Championships, affectionately dubbed “Worlds” by the Wushu community, returns to the USA, having previously been held in 1995 at Baltimore, Maryland. As a sport, modern Wushu is standardized into two competition categories; Taolu (套路； tàolù), the practice of forms and sequences, and Sanshou (散手； sànshǒu, free hand), the practice of freestyle sparring and scientific martial applications, also known as Sanda (散打； sàndǎ, free fighting). The World Wushu Championships are the biggest international competition in this sport, and due to the pandemic, they are being held for the first time in four years.
